Being part of the dream team – Thoughts from an Endy Intern!

What was your role at Endy?

My official job title was Digitial Communications and Marketing Intern. I managed the social media for Endy, helped with guerilla marketing initiatives, photoshoots and had the opportunity to lead a couple of projects of my own, namely, our Brand Ambassador Program and Frosh Week Outreach!

Describe your Endy internship in 3 words:

Dynamic, active, eye-opening.

It was dynamic in the sense that I worked on multiple different projects, active because I lifted, pushed and carried bed frames, mattresses and props, and eye opening because I learned so much about e-commerce and marketing.

What was your best memory?

My best memory was attending the Idea City event back in June. Endy attended as a supporting partner, allowing us to listen in on some seriously interesting lectures.

What was the hardest thing you had to do?

The hardest thing I had to do was also the most rewarding. I was in charge of creating and organizing frosh week swag bags for new incoming university students which involved firstly, getting my budget approved, then selecting the items for the frosh kits, ordering them, and lastly putting them together. Going into this project, I did not anticipate how long it would take to build the 3500 little cardboard boxes and stuff them. Add the delay on the sleep masks that were shipped from China and my stress level was through the roof. I was concerned we wouldn’t get them out on time.

How did the project turn out?

The whole team pitched in and we managed to get them all out of the door on time. The boxes were truly made with blood, sweat and tears, but it felt so good getting them out the door!

What position do you sleep in?

On my right side with a blanket or pillow between my knees (I hate when they touch).

What’s one thing you learned about sleep that you didn’t know before?

Managing the social media for Endy, I was constantly reading news articles and keeping up to date on all things sleep. I think one of the most interesting things I learned is that presently, we understand sleep as a way for our brains to clear out the ‘waste’ that builds up during the day!

Stand out social media moments?

I am constantly scouring the Twitterverse for anything sleep, coffee or breakfast related. Every day I come across IHOP's witty tweets about pancakes, and one in particular stood out. None of the other replies got that they were referring to the ever-so popular song Mambo #5, but I did :)

What was your favourite part of the job?

My favourite part of the job was hands down working with the Endy Dream Team. The people made my summer internship that much more fun, each bringing a different energy and creative perspective to the job.

Was it what you expected?

Working in a start-up before, I thought I had an idea of what it would be like, but I was wrong. My internship at Endy allowed me to REALLY get involved, get my hands dirty and learn a ton about the company. I did not expect to take away so much and have so much fun!

What advice do you have for new interns?

A start-up environment is dynamic and fast paced. To keep up you need to keep an open mind, be creative and go with the flow (and have FUN!).
