Peeling yourself away from a warm bed earlier than what your body is used to is tough, but getting your kids to adjust to the time change can be tougher. But like most things, being prepared can help you adapt to change easier, allowing you to truly “spring forward.”
In the lead up to Daylight Saving Time (DST) on March 10, you can prepare your kids—and yourself—to avoid that jet lag feeling by following these tips.

Shifting sleep schedules incrementally
Slow and steady wins the race. Adjust your kid’s schedule by moving their wake-up and bedtime up by 15 minutes so their bodies aren’t shocked by the time change. You might get some resistance at the first, but this would be a good time to educate them on why DST exists: to get more sunshine!
Lighting is key
Our body’s circadian rhythm finds its pace based on lightness and darkness in our surrounding environment. Having a light dimmer will alleviate blasting bright light into bleary eyes. Conversely, darken rooms as much as possible during naps and bedtime to send your kid’s body the right signals.
Catch ALL THe Z’s
Get as much shut-eye as possible as DST nears. There are zero disadvantages in being an overachiever in sleep here.
Stick to the program
Be steadfast in keeping your kid’s routine in-check. Slight adjustments might have to made here and there, but carrying on with their scheduled activities will minimize the potential chaos.
Show some sympathy
If a tantrum is abound, keep in mind that sleep deprivation can make people more prone to grumpiness. Resolve meltdowns with some quiet time or throw in a quick nap to fight the fatigue.
