A poor night’s sleep
A night with a lack of quality Zs is most likely the reason for your headache. Those who have sleep disorders like insomnia are more likely to experience morning headaches than those without.
Sleep apnea can also be the reason why you’re experiencing morning headaches because there are moments where you stop breathing throughout the night. Headaches from sleep apnea can be quickly resolved, and you can also treat sleep apnea with a CPAP machine.
A morning migraine can also be the cause of an early headache, and are notorious for really inhibiting your ability to function.
Depression and anxiety
A study done by Stanford University School of Medicine concluded that anxiety and depression are significant factors in experiencing chronic morning headaches. Mental health conditions can also lead to insomnia.
According to Healthline, morning headaches can arise from a poor night’s sleep (including insomnia), if you experience migraines, mental health conditions like anxiety and depression.
Grinding your teeth
We’re all guilty of clenching your jaw or grinding our teeth, a habit typically triggered by stress or anxiety. This bad habit can lead what experts call sleep bruxism and it happens subconsciously when you’re asleep. Because of the tension grinding can cause, it’s common for individuals to wake up to a dull headache felt at the temples.
Excessive drinking that isn’t balanced with water will result in uneven sleep and a brutal hangover.
